The holiday spirit in the U.S.fourth largest city of Houston got a boost with a Christmas tree-lighting and a holiday celebration in the heart of downtown Friday night.
The spectacular event is a holiday tradition of music, Santa, and family fun, with fireworks. Seven-time Grammy Award winner, Dennis Edwards and The Temptations Review headlined the event with their legendary MOTOWN sounds.
Thousands of Houstonians gathered at the square in front of the city hall, enjoying food, music, performances and leisure time with their families.
Eyes lit up as Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Santa Claus, joined by other VIP guests, took the stage, lighting the towering 63-foot White Fir Holiday Tree and igniting a spectacular fireworks presentation.
Parker thanked the sponsors of the event and wished the city a great year ahead.
The Christmas tree, glowing with energy efficient LED lights, shimmering ornaments and a stunning star topper will light up the streets of downtown Houston this holiday season.
