Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced Monday Egyptians living abroad will begin casting their votes in the constitutional referendum on Dec. 8, one week ahead of the polls across the country.

Foreign ministry spokesman Amr Rushdi said in a statement that the voting process will start on Dec. 8 and end on Dec. 11, noting that all the involved Egyptian embassies and consulates will extend their opening hours from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m., so that people can vote before and after work.

Rushdi added that voters abroad can send their ballots via email or cast them by hand, noting that in both cases they should provide a document proving their stay in the countries where they cast votes, along with a copy of ID card or passport.

During a meeting on Saturday at the Cairo International Conference Center with the 85 members of the beleaguered Constituent Assembly, which approved the draft constitution Friday after a 17-hour marathon vote, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi called Egyptians to cast their votes in the coming constitution referendum.
