Japan's core private-sector machinery orders rose a seasonally adjusted 2.6 percent in October from September to 704.4 billion yen (8.52 billion U.S. dollars), increasing for the first time in three months, the government said Wednesday.

The figure, which exclude those for ships as well as from utilities because of their volatility, matched economists' forecasts. However the recovery was moderate compared with declines in September and August of 4.3 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively.

Given the slow recovery, the Cabinet Office downwardly revised its basic assessment of the orders for the first time in four months, saying they are "weakening."

The reading is seen as an indicator for future capital spending by companies. Endi
