Afghan security forces backed by the NATO-led troops eliminated 11 Taliban militants in the outfit's former stronghold Kandahar 450 km south of Kabul on Saturday, spokesman for provincial administration Jawed Faisal said Sunday.
"The joint operation of Afghan and the coalition forces was conducted in Baghak area of Khakriz district yesterday during which 11 Taliban rebels were killed," Faisal told Xinhua.
Without mentioning the possible suffering of security forces, he said that some 20 Taliban fighters were at meeting in a house when the operation was carried out.
Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to comment on the claim.
