The Muslim Brotherhood's (MB) " consecutive attempts to dominate the political life" in Egypt encouraged the Islamist fanatics to practice violence against other civil political forces, Wafd Party spokesman Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy told Xinhua Monday in an interview.

Sherdy's remarks came two days after the headquarters of his party, one of the main opposition parties in Egypt, was attacked by some "Islamists".

"The attackers tried to set the Wafd headquarters and our newspaper on fire by using Molotov cocktails and other firing tools, but the security personnel managed to stop them," said the spokesman, adding that "the incident left several Wafd members and security personnel injured and 12 cars damaged."

"The Journalists Syndicate has submitted a proclamation to the general prosecutor, holding the president and the security authority responsibility for attacking the Wafd's headquarters and newspaper," he said.

According to local media, some supporters of the MB are sitting in before gates of the media city in Cairo, preventing the anchors from getting in the channels' headquarters and claiming they are " misleading and opaque."

"The behavior of some MB members who are sitting in front of the constitutional court to prevent the judges from getting in encouraged other extremists to siege the media city and attack the Wafd party headquarters," he contended.

Sherdy said the MB is freezing other political factions off from the political arena and distorting their image before the public.

Recently, supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi held rallies in Cairo and other parts of the country, reflecting a bitter division in the nation.

"Even in the constitutional referendum, the MB alleged that those who vote 'Yes' for the constitution supports the stability of Egypt, while those who don't are against the stability of Egypt, " he continued.

Meanwhile, Sherdy said his party demanded to re-run the voting due to "violations and forgeries" committed in the constitution referendum's first stage.

"The Higher Elections Committee is responsible for the violations and forgeries committed in the referendum, because they accepted to run it while there is no sufficient judicial supervision," he said.

"We ask the Higher Elections Committee to re-run the first stage, or at least ensure that the second stage scheduled for Dec. 22 be completely judiciary supervised," the spokesman added.

Wafd Party planned a demonstration as a member of the National Salvation Front, the opposition bloc, to protest Tuesday against the "violations and forgeries" during the referendum.

Sherdy also urged Morsi to break silence and comment on the recent violent incidents that were "against the freedom of press as well as the judiciary independence." Endi
