Residents of Russia's chilly northern city St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region are bracing themselves for some cold days ahead, the Hydrometeorological Center of St. Petersburg said Monday.

Temperatures may reach as low as minus 22 degrees Celsius in the coming days in the east of Leningrad Oblast, and are expected to go well into the negative teens in St. Petersburg itself, around ten to fifteen degrees below the December average.

St. Petersburg is regarded by many Russians as the most uncomfortable place to spend winter because of its seaside location, wind and humidity. Endi
