The death toll from typhoon Bopha in Philippines rose to 1,046, a senior official said Tuesday.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Benito Ramos said the 1,046 fatalities included 599 who died in Compostela Valley and 391 from Davao Oriental.

The accounting of three more fatalities brought down the number of missing from 844 as of Monday to just 841. More than half, or 471, of the missing are from Compostela Valley.

Ramos said Bopha displaced more than 6 million people, of which only 25,953 persons are housed in 63 evacuation centers. The typhoon also damaged more than 24 billion pesos (584.79 million U. S. dollars) worth of crops and infrastructure. Endi
