Visiting European Union delegation urged Thursday the Bahraini government to release all prisoners of conscience to create an atmosphere for a national dialogue to end the country's political stalemate.
"We call for the release of all prisoners of conscience as an essential step towards creating an atmosphere where a genuine dialogue can take place," said Inese Vaidere, head of the delegation and a member of the European Parliament.
During its two-day visit in Bahrain, the delegation met with Bahrain's senior government officials, MPs, members from political societies and non-governmental organizations.
"We encourage all social and political forces in Bahrain to embark on a genuine, inclusive and peaceful national dialogue in good faith," Vaidere stated.
The delegation called upon all Bahrainis to "renounce violence" and further urged the government to encourage "anti- corruption measures at all levels." Endi
