Moscow on Friday called on all sides of the Syrian conflict and foreign players to abide by the Geneva agreement.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Lakhdar Brahimi, joint U.N.-Arab League envoy on Syria, by phone that there should be no alternative to the implementation of the Geneva communique which agreed to start an all-Syrian dialogue, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The agreement reached by world powers during a Geneva meeting in June would help find solutions to the deadlock, stop bloodshed and the use of military force, and launch a detailed dialogue inside Syria on main parameters for fundamental reforms in order to benefit all Syrians, it said.

Lavrov said both the Syrian sides and key external players ought to strictly abide by the agreement reached at this meeting, according to the ministry.

Brahimi, for his part, reaffirmed his readiness to continue working with Russia to tackle the Syrian crisis.

Last week, Russia accused the United States of contradicting the Geneva communique, as Washington recognized the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people. Endi
