Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi issued Monday a presidential decree to suspend the 32nd session of the Shura Council retrospectively as of Saturday, the state-owned MENA news agency reported.

The president also issued another decree calling the Shura Council to start its 33rd session on Wednesday.

At the inaugural meeting of the new session on Wednesday, Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil will deliver a speech, in which he will read out Morsi's decision to appoint 90 members to the council.

The new members appointed by Morsi will take the constitutional oath at the meeting.

The Shura Council, the upper house of Egypt's parliament, is composed of 270 members, two-thirds of which are elected and a third is appointed by the president.

The Shura Council is expected to take over the full legislative power from Morsi once the new constitution is ratified, until the People's Assembly is elected.

The council's responsibilities will include drafting laws, including the election law that will govern the upcoming parliamentary polls. Endi
