Japan's new Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on late Wednesday said his new government will focus on reconstructing those quake-hit areas and recovering the country's wobbling economy.

Abe made the remarks in a press conference held in his official residence after he was elected as the country's prime minister and formed his new cabinet.

Abe called on all cabinet members to combine their efforts to accelerate the reconstruction in the northeast Japan, adding this is the "utmost importance" in the new government.

He also said his government will fight against Japan's prolonged deflation and make efforts towards strong yen, asserting the issues are "urgent problems that the cabinet has to deal with. " Endi
