Egypt's Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) will discuss the resumption of its work in a meeting set for Sunday, official news agency MENA reported Saturday.

The top constitutional court will hold a general assembly Sunday to discuss the resumption of work, as Islamists ended their sit-in outside the court in Cairo, MENA quoted SCC chief Judge Maher al-Beheiry as saying.

Beheiry noted that Sunday's meeting would decide when to resume sessions and review suspended appeals.

The SCC headquarters in Cairo has been besieged by supporters of President Mohamed Morsi since Dec. 1, just one day before the court was supposed to review the lawsuits claiming the unconstitutionality of the Islamist-dominated Shura Council (the upper house of parliament), as well as the unconstitutionality of the constitution-writing assembly, which approved on Nov. 30 a disputed draft constitution for the recent referendum.

The Islamists and their tents outside the court prevented judges from entering the building and made the court indefinitely suspend its activities.

After the constitution was approved by 63.8 percent of voters in the referendum concluded on Dec. 22, the Islamist protesters started to end their sit-in outside the court. Endi
