With 1.01 million tons of natural rubber exported in 2012, up 23.8 percent over 2011, Vietnam became the world's third largest natural rubber exporter after Thailand and Indonesia, Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper reported on Tuesday.
During the period, the country pocketed 2.85 billion U.S. dollars, down 12.6 percent year-on-year, said the Vietnam Rubber Association.
As of the end of 2012, Vietnam has about 910,500 hectares of rubber plantation area, exceeding the planned target of 800,000 hectares by 2015. Currently, the country's rubber productivity reached 1.7 tons per hectare, ranking third in the world.
Major importers of Vietnam's rubber are Malaysia, India and China's Taiwan. Endi
