Turkey's defense equipment exports reached 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2012, marking a 43-percent increase from the amount of defense-related exports in 2011, Turkish Daily News reported Sunday.

The United States ranked No.1 by purchasing 490 million U.S. dollars worth of defense products from Turkey over the year 2012, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 101 million U.S. dollars, while Saudi Arabia came third with 99 million U.S. dollars in purchases.

Other major defense equipment buyers of Turkey included Russia, Britain, Italy, Germany, France and Iraq.

Turkey broke an all-time exports record last year with 151.9 billion U.S. dollars, in which arms sales made a substantial contribution. Endi
