The central peace making work committee of the Myanmar government is coordinating with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) to resume peace talks, the government said in a press release Friday.

The coordination is being made through armed groups which have already signed ceasefire agreement with the government.

The government holds that genuine peace could only be achieved through dialogue, the release said.

The government announced unilateral ceasefire with the KIA on Jan.18 to prepare for a political dialogue, saying that the government troops will stop military offensive against the area of Lajayan starting Jan.19.

On Jan. 19, the government's Central Peace-Making Work Committee invited the KIA to resume peace talks and the letter of invitation for the talks was sent to KIA leader U Zaung Haya.

Despite government's unilateral ceasefire offer, the KIA reportedly continued its attacks against the government forces.

Meanwhile, parliament members are urging KIA at their ongoing session to accept government's peace offer and come back to the negotiation table. Endi
