A children's film festival opened in this Russian city on Tuesday, with the organizers receiving about 1,000 works mainly from Russian secondary school students.

A young filmmaker from Toronto, Canada, also sent works to the third annual "Cheerful Larga Seal," during which a jury will pick winners in different genres.

The works are categorized into fiction/documentary films, television programs, cartoons, video clips and public service advertisement.

The main themes of this year's festival are Russian history, introspection on today's children as well as concerns about the environmental problems.

The three-day event will also feature meetings for creative teams and master classes for video-editors, cameramen and journalists. Endi
