The U.S. embassy in Islamabad on Friday confirmed that its diplomat's car crushed to death a Pakistani and injured another, a statement said.

Two Pakistanis, riding a motorbike, were hit by speedy car of an American diplomat in Islamabad late Thursday night, with both of them injured, witnesses said.

One later died in hospital of wounds and the other is under treatment, police and doctors said.

Family of the deceased has registered case with the police against the diplomat. However, the diplomat has been released as he enjoys diplomatic immunity.

The U.S. embassy confirmed the accident and said that an accredited U.S. diplomat was involved in a road accident at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in the vicinity of Margalla Road and Constitution Avenue in Islamabad.

"The embassy employee's vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying two Pakistani citizens, injuring both men," a statement said.

The statement said the U.S. embassy employee, who also sustained minor injuries, was treated, and released.

"We have and will continue to cooperate fully with the appropriate Pakistani authorities on the investigation, and are working through our local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns," the statement said.

The statement also extended condolences to the families affected by this tragedy. Endi
