Botswana's 800m Olympics silver medallist Nijel Amos will relocate to Europe in May to start preparations for the outdoor season and the August World Championships in Moscow.
The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) revealed in a statement on Tuesday that Amos, who is also the Junior World Championships 800m record holder, will be in Europe until after the championships when he returns to South Africa where he is currently based.
BNOC said Amos has been in South Africa for almost three weeks and is under the tutelage of renowned coach, John Verster at Potchefstroom High Performance Centre.
While in Potchefstroom, Amos will also enrol in Diploma in Sports Science. Amos' stay in South Africa is an interim measure while BNOC awaits the approval of his sponsorship from International Olympics Committee (IOC).
"The BNOC has ensured that as Amos trains at the facility, he also begins classes towards Diploma in Sports Science, which was his choice of study," said BNOC.
BNOC CEO Tuelo Serufho said Amos has been training for at least a week and highlighted that his programme is strenuous but stressed that it is what he needed.
Coach Vester has previously coached 800m Olympic silver medallists and 800m World Champion Hezekiel Sepeng. He also coached Botswana's former Olympic finalist Glody Dube and various world-class middle distance runners that include among others London 2012 800m-semi finalist, Andre Olivier. Endi
