Monchengladbach overcame Frankfurt 1-0 thanks to the winner by Luuk de Jong who brought a negative run to an end at the opener of the 24th round of Bundesliga on Friday.

Luuk de Jong's winner at Frankfurt ensured Monchengladbach's first win after six winless matches. Frankfurt controlled the proceedings for long periods still they were unable to exploit their chances on home soil to remain without a goal for 415 minutes.

Both sides were willing to take over control but it were the visitors who approached the goal dangerously through Luuk de Jong who pulled wide with his header at the opening period.

The hosts were unable to penetrate into a promising position as Monchengladbach's well-positioned defence kept Frankfurt's efforts away.

Monchengladbach's youngster Amin Younes shot on target was deflected for a corner. The following corner smoothed the way for the opener as Luuk de Jong made use of a flicked on corner at the far post to nod home at the 22nd minute.

The "Foals" focused on counter attacks with the neat lead behind whereas Frankfurt tried in vain to score the equalizer at the second half. Their finish remained too inaccurate and overhasty.

The victory put Monchengladbach on 6th position with 34 points which would ensure a second season at the UEFA Europa League meanwhile Frankfurt stay on 4th position with 38 points for now.

The following matches are scheduled for Saturday: defending champions Dortmund encounter Hannover, Wolfsburg see Schalke, Bremen host relegation threatened Augsburg, Nuremberg face Freiburg, Hamburg meet bottom side Greuther Fuerth and Leverkusen clash Stuttgart. Endi
