Three mortar shells landed near government establishments in central Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday, as the rebels have reportedly stormed a police academy in the northern province of Aleppo.
The three mortars landed in areas close to the custom directorate and the Ministry of High Education in al-Jamarek area in Damascus, local reports said, as activists said the mortars landed close to the army's chief of staff headquarters, which is also adjacent to the custom directorate and the ministry.
The shells have apparently left no casualties.
Meanwhile, the al-Khabar TV said that the rebels succeeded Sunday in storming the police academy in Aleppo. It said that the clashes were so ferocious and claimed the lives of tens of government troops.
The report could not be reconciled with the absence of official comments, but the police academy in Khan al-Asal town has been besieged by the rebels since last month after they stormed the town itself.
The incident came as the rebels have been feverishly trying to overrun military bases in the northern slice of Syria.
A day earlier, the state media said that the army troops had secured several towns stretched along the international roads leading to Aleppo. Endi
