An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck off East Nusa Tenggara of Indonesia earlier Wednesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.
The USGS said the quake was at 5.5 magnitude.
The quake struck at 00:23 a.m. Jakarta time on Wednesday (1723 GMT) with epicenter at 25 km Timur Laut Sumbawa Timur of East Nusa Tenggara and with depth at 50 km under land, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone and is called " the Pacific Ring of Fire." Endi
