New car sales in New Zealand were among the highest in more than two decades for the month of March, the Motor Industry Association (MIA) announced Tuesday.
New vehicle registrations were up 11.5 percent from March 2012 to 9,505 units, according to the MIA figures.
Commercial vehicle registrations were up 33.3 percent to 2,705 units, their strongest March sales since 1985, while passenger car numbers were up 4.6 percent to 6,800, the third strongest monthly passenger car sales since 1990.
"This result shows the new vehicle market remains strong, consistent with levels of sales pre the global financial crisis. Commercial vehicle registrations continue to perform at levels last seen in the mid 1980s," MIA chief executive office David Crawford said in a statement.
Toyota remained the market leader taking 19.4 percent, or 1,845, of total registrations, followed by Ford with 928 new vehicle registrations and Holden with 904 new vehicle registrations. Endi
