Chinese sailor Guo Chuan paid homage to his late father after he successfully completed a non-stop solo travel around the world on Friday.
"Today is the Tomb-Sweeping Day (a traditional festival when Chinese mourn their deceased family members), so I want to talk something about my father. He passed away in 2011 when I was training in Europe. It's been a regret that I failed to bid him farewell," Guo said upon returning to his hometown of Qingdao Friday morning following a 138-day solo sail around the globe.
"I wish he could see me today. I think he would understand in other world and feel happy about me."
Aboard a Class40 yacht, the 48-year-old Guo embarked on the sail on November 18 last year and covered about 21,600 nautical miles before he returned to Qingdao.
The once-in-a-lifetime journey saw Guo pilot his yacht across the Pacific Ocean and then down to Cape Horn off the coast of South Africa before crossing into the Atlantic Ocean.
Guo, one of China's most accomplished sailors, previously became the first Chinese to traverse the Atlantic Ocean by himself and to take part in the Volvo Around-The-World Ocean race. Endi
