Cambodia and Colombia on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a political consultation mechanism in order to strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation.

The deal was inked between Ouch Borith, Secretary of State of Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Patti Londono, visiting Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.

"Under the deal, both sides will hold a political consultative talk once or twice a year," Ouch Borith told reporters after the signing ceremony.

In a meeting before the signing ceremony, Ouch Borith suggested that Cambodia and Colombia strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism and agriculture, especially rice.

Patti said Colombia is pleased to cooperate with Cambodia in tourism sector, saying that Colombia will send a group of Spanish speaking trainers to Cambodia in order to train Cambodian tourist guides in the second half of this year.

Also, she said Colombia was ready to cooperate and share experience with Cambodia in the fight against drug trafficking.

Cambodia and Colombia forged diplomatic relations in 1994. The two countries' trade and investment ties remain relatively small so far.

On the tourism side, some 1,500 Colombians visited Cambodia last year, down 27 percent year-on-year, said a Cambodian tourism report. Endi
