Pakistani leaders send condolences over Iran's earthquake deaths

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Kohoso Tuesday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and destruction as a result of major earthquake in Iran, the Foreign Ministry said.

An earthquake measuring 7.9 hit the region including Iran on Tuesday afternoon.

Iranian state television reported that at least 40 people have been killed and hundreds injured in the tremors.

An Iranian government official said it was the biggest earthquake in Iran in 40 years and the death toll is likely to increase.

In his message to Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, President Zardari expressed heartfelt condolences on his own behalf and the behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan with the Iranian government and people, particularly the families of those who lost their dear ones in the natural calamity.

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso also expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and damage to property in Iran. Endi
