Venezuelan Acting President and President-elect Nicolas Maduro is traveling on Thursday to Lima, Peru to attend a Union of South American Nations (Unasur) special meeting, during which the bloc will discuss the political situation in Venezuela following last Sunday's presidential election.

Senior Unasur officials have confirmed Maduro's attendance.

Maduro was officially declared winner of the Sunday election, but the Venezuelan opposition rejected the results and demanded a vote recount. Violent protests over the election results have led to multiple deaths in the country in the past few days. Endi
