France says ready to cooperate in attempted coup probe in Comoros

France is ready to cooperate with the Comorian authorities in the investigation of the attempted coup in the Comoros, said the French envoy to the Indian Ocean island country has promised.

French Ambassador to Moroni Philippe Lacoste made the pledge after being informed by the Comorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the involvement of French nationals in the foiled plot at the weekend.

"If the French continue to do such things, they will be prosecuted in France," Lacoste said.

The ambassador congratulated the Comorian security forces for keeping vigilant and succeeding in preserving the institutions. A coup attempt was foiled by the Comorian authorities, according to the announcement by Minister of Interior Abdallah Hamada.

As many as 15 individuals presumed perpetrators are in detention including seven Comorian military and civilian personnel, a French, a Chadian and five Congolese. Endi
