French consumer appreciation of their general economic and financial situation remained unchanged at the end of April, compared to a month earlier, but it was still below its long term average, government figures showed on Friday.

The consumer confidence index was stable at 84 points over the period, with people's confidence about their personal past finances improved by two points to minus 28. However, they were less optimistic about their future situation, as the indicator lost one point from March.

In its monthly report, the French statistics institute Insee said less households thought that it was good opportunity to make savings.

The indicator of expectations for the French economy in the coming months fell one point to minus 62 "at its historically lowest level," it added.

The survey also found that French household concerns over unemployment eased by two points to stand at 74 points.

France, Europe's second largest economy, is currently struggling to narrow its widening budget deficit and boost economic growth.

It has targeted a 0.1-percent growth this year, and 1.2 percent in 2014 and 2.0 percent annually between 2015 and 2017, by promoting economic activities and boosting competitiveness. Endi
