The sixth session of the Algerian- Russian Joint Commission opened here Tuesday as the two nations are willing to achieve an exemplary and pragmatic multisector partnership, the APS news agency reported.

The session is co-chaired by Algerian Minister of Finance, Karim Djoudi, and Russian Minister of Energy, Alexendre Novak.

"The cooperation between Algeria and Russia has started 50 years ago, and this session will be another step forward within a close multisectoral cooperation based on mutual interests," said Novak.

Novak advocated for "a new impetus for trade exchanges between the two nations," saying "Russia sees Algeria a reliable partner enjoying great macroeconomic skills."

Energy, high-tech, telecommunication, automotive, urbanism and housing, and transportation are the main fields of cooperation and exchanges that interest Russia most, he said.

For his part, Djoudi said Algeria is committed to developing its cooperation with Russia in all fields.

"I renew the full availability of Algeria for an exemplary multisectoral cooperation based on mutual interests," he said, urging the joint commission to finalize draft legal texts, particularly in such areas as trade, agriculture, justice and space activities.

Algeria and Russia are linked by a strategic partnership sealed in April 2001. Their cooperation was strengthened in 2010 after the inking of six agreements in the fields of standardization, diplomacy, economy, marine transportation and energy. Endi
