South Korean President Park Geun-hye is set to meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon later Monday on her first foreign trip since taking office.

The meeting between Ban, a South Korean national, and Park is expected to kick off at 9:30 a.m. EDT (1330 GMT) on Monday, according to UN officials.

It will be the first visit to the UN headquarters by Park since she took office as South Korea's first female president in February.

The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is expected to be one of the top issues to be discussed by Ban and Park at the upcoming meeting, observers here said.

The scheduled visit is part of Park's first overseas trip, which will also take her to Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday. Endi
