FC Barcelona were confirmed as the winners of the BBVA Primera Liga late of Saturday night without having to kick a ball.

Real Madrid's failure to defeat Barca's city neighbors, Espanyol in Saturday's 10pm kick off leaves then in second place 10 points behind Barcelona, but with just three games remaining in the season.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with Gonzalo Higuain's second half header cancelling out Christian Stuani's first half opener for Espanyol.

Barcelona have 88 points, while the maximum Real Madrid can now attain is 87 even if they win those remaining matches and the side coached this campaign by Tito Vilanova reclaim the title they lost to Real Madrid last season.

Barca have now won four Spanish league titles in the past five seasons and will receive a guard of honor from their rivals Atletico Madrid when they take to the pitch for Sunday's game away to Atletico in the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Barca have so far played 34 games this season, winning 28, drawing four and losing just two, while scoring 105 goals to just 37 against. Endi
