After a gap of four months, India 's national carrier Air India will resume flights of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes from Wednesday, the country's Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said Tuesday.
"The first commercial flight of the Dreamliner will start Wednesday from the national capital to the eastern city of Kolkata. The first international flight of the Dreamliner will be launched from May 22. The remaining four of the total six Dreamliners with Air India now would become operational by this month end," Singh told the media.
Air India would also acquire eight more Dreamliners by December this year, the minister added.
The carrier had grounded its fleet of six Dreamliners some four months back, following global incidents of overheating in the batteries providing auxiliary power, which forced other airlines to ground their fleet too.
Boeing, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer, has since worked to develop new battery housings to prevent a repeat of the incidents. Endi
