UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Thursday strongly condemned two deadly suicide bombings happening in northern Niger in the same day.
"The Secretary-General reiterates the support of the United Nations to the efforts of the Government of Niger and other countries in the Sahel region to combat the scourge of terrorism and transnational crime, in close collaboration with the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and the Economic Community of Central African States," said a statement issued here by Ban's spokesperson.
At least 25 people were killed and 30 others injured in the twin suicide bombings which took place Thursday to attack a military base in Agadez, the main town in northern Niger, and a factory run by French nuclear giant Areva in the West African country.
While conveying his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, Ban stressed the need for the international community "to continue to strengthen its cooperation to address these serious threats to the stability of the sub-region and beyond," the statement added. Endi
