Labor Minister Rafael Pardo says Colombia has been removed from the International Labor Organization's "black list" of 25 countries that have failed to comply with international workers' conditions.
Pardo said Colombia was removed from the black list for a number of reasons including recent promotion programs based on freedom of association and collective bargaining in the public and private sectors.
"Colombia has made tremendous progress on labor issues in order to get off that list, so in that sense, the government has an obligation to keep working on all the issues related to the improvement in working conditions and the country's freedom of association," Pardo said.
President Juan Manuel Santos welcomed the achievement during the ILO's 102nd Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
"Our efforts to respect human rights are shown by our exclusion from the ILO's black list," Santos said. Endit
