The Japanese cabinet on Friday gave green light to bills that aim at forming the Japanese National Security Council in an effort to enhance the leadership of the prime minister's office in security and foreign policies, reported local media.

According to the bills, the council comprises the prime minister, chief cabinet secretary and foreign and defense ministers and will determine basic government policies, reported Japan's Kyodo News.

The secretary of the council that will be set up in the cabinet will coordinate specifics among relevant ministries and other government branches, while the agencies will be obliged to submit information to the council.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that members of the council will gather to discuss security issues on a regular basis and this will enable the government to share information and make quick judgments.

The government will submit the bills to the current Diet session and eyes its enactment in an extraordinary Diet session in the autumn, according to the report. Endi
