The Dubai Port World (DP World), the company winning the concession to manage the container terminal at the Dakar Port, has agreed to pay the balance of 48 million U.S. dollars for its concessionary contract.
The Senegalese Justice Ministry on Sunday disclosed that the DP World is suspected of having connived with Karim Wade, the son to ex-Senegalese president being investigated over illegally acquired wealth.
DP World's Senegalese subsidiary, which won its concessionary contract when Karim Wade was still a minister, has been cited by the prosecutor at the Anti-Corruption court as being owned by the ex-president's son.
The company has now promised to create a new company in Senegal with known shareholders.
A statement from the Senegalese justice ministry indicated that an investigation by the state inspectorate had discovered the fraud committed by the DP World in the execution of the contract to handle the container terminal at the Dakar Autonomous Port, especially regarding the payment of the entire concessionary fees.
The company was recently placed under the Senegalese judiciary, which suspects that the son to ex-president Abdoulaye Wade was the owner of its Senegalese subsidiary.
The statement was released following a meeting held last week in Paris between Senegalese President Macky Sall and Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the DP World president. Endi
