The air quality in Malaysia improved slightly on Monday but the haze caused by forest fire in neighbouring Indonesia is expected to continue due to hot and dry weather.

Accroding to the Air Pollutant Index released by the Department of Environment, four places fell under the unhealthy levels by noon on Monday, down from six on Sunday.

Many places in the peninsular Malaysia, including the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, was clouded by haze during the weekend.

Experts said the situation may worsen if the current weather condition remain unchanged, as the westerly monsoon winds would bring in more pollutants caused by forest fire in Sumatra Island, Indonesia.

Prime Minister Najib Razak suggested his fellow countrymen to take precautious measure against the poor air condition.

"Haze is expected to worsen across Malaysia," he said on tweeter. "Please limit outdoor activities and drink more water." Endtiem
