Peruvian authorities have destroyed three cocaine-processing laboratories in the town of Sandia, in Peru's southern Puno province, the National Police reported Monday.

The labs were discovered over the weekend during an anti-narcotics operation involving more than 80 special agents, the police said in a press release.

During the raid on the labs, the police agents accompanied by two judges from the Public Prosecutor's Office arrested two suspects, Mario Caceres Viera, 48, and 17-year-old Marco M. A. whose full name was not released because of his status as a minor, it said.

The agents destroyed chemicals and equipment used to produce illicit drugs.

The Amazon and remote Andean regions of Peru are favored by international drug cartels, which collect coca paste and produce cocaine under the jungle cover for subsequent shipment to the United States and Europe. Endi
