An unified Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) food security strategy will be discussed by the ministers of commerce and industry in October, Al Eqtisadiya newspaper said Thursday.
The strategy will focus on self-dependency through the utilization of agricultural lands in the region, an official from the General Secretariat of the GCC told the newspaper.
He said that the GCC countries will move forward in renting agricultural lands in other states.
The strategy will also pay attention to manufacture food and agriculture products, cut water consumption and appropriate stocking of food items in the region.
"Shortage of water and agricultural lands are our main limitations in ensuring food security, while this could be overcome through new agricultural spots in Saudi Arabia and Oman. International experts will seek to deal with obstacles through modern technology," he revealed. Endi
