Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans said on Thursday he is "extremely concerned" about the situation in Egypt.

Timmermans advised leaders in Egypt to let the changes happen only through democratic means and hoped for a quick return of democracy in the country.

"Free and fair elections, freedom of expression, the right to demonstrate and respect for human rights, including minority rights, are essential," he stated. "Only through political dialogue the legitimate demands of the population can be achieved."

Egyptian judge Adli Mansour was sworn in Thursday as the interim president of the state after the ouster of Mohamed Morsi. At least 11 people were killed and more than 500 injured in clashes between the supporters and opponents of Morsi Wednesday overnight.

Timmermans called on Egypt's army and police to ensure safety.

"I deeply regret these developments," said Timmermans. "I stand by the victims and their families."

"Due to the current uncertain administrative situation in Egypt, the Netherlands government cancels support to Egypt's transition for the time being," he added. Endi
