German car producers BMW and Audi on Monday announced strong sales growth in the half of the year.

The Munich-based BMW Group said that it sold 954,521 vehicles worldwide in the first half of 2013, up by 6 percent year on year. In June, BMW sold 184,489 cars, an increase of 6.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen subsidiary Audi AG saw its sales rise by 6.4 percent. It sold as many as 780,500 cars, the highest number in the group's history.

The good performance in China, Britain and the United States mainly contribute to the good sales numbers, according to Audi's announcement.

"The new A3 and the Q3 and Q5 SUV models in particular contributed significantly to our sustained global sales growth in the first half of the year," said Luca de Meo, member of the board of management for sales at Audi.

Last week, Daimler also reported sales increased of 6.4 percent especially due to the strong growth on Chinese market. Endi
