The Turkish Embassy in Egypt has started preparations for a possible evacuation of Turkish citizens from the country due to the escalation of clashes between Egyptian army troops and pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators after Morsi ouster, local Today's Zaman reported on Monday.
In case of "critical conditions," the Turkish embassy has started to collect information of Turkish citizens in Egypt although an evacuation is not yet underway, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, Turkish citizens have become the target of anti- Morsi groups in the country.
Bilge Egemen, a Turkish reporter, said Sunday in her Twitter that she was assaulted by a group of anti-Morsi demonstrators gathered in Tahrir Square in Cairo after reporting the developments in Egypt as a "coup d'etat."
Morsi was ousted by the Egyptian army on Wednesday after millions of protesters demanded his removal due to his " maladministration" since he was elected a year ago.
