Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic said Wednesday Macedonian government will initiate procedures to amend the regulation that limits the import of wheat and flour from Serbia.

Ljajic discussed the issue with Macedonia's Minister of Agriculture Ljupco Dimovski on Wednesday, according to local media Tanjug.

"We agreed to remove all non-tariff barriers in trade to allow a free flow of goods, but also to increase trade and improve the economic cooperation between the two countries," said Ljajic, who is also the minister of trade and telecommunications.

If everything is in accordance with the agreement on Wednesday and if it is implemented, Serbia will not take any reciprocal steps, Ljajic underscored.

Serbian and Macedonian officials will consult weekly and resolve issues presented by exporters and importers so the regulations like the one limiting the import of wheat and flour from Serbia would not be repeated, he said.

A CEFTA meeting is scheduled for July 22 in Belgrade, where the executive committee will be informed about the agreement on Wednesday, but it will also be stated that the measures like the limit on the import of wheat and flour should not happen again, Ljajic noted.

"Such measures do not contribute to good political relations, and in particular to the development of the economic and trade relations between the region's countries," Ljajic remarked.

The Macedonian government decided last week to link the import of Serbian wheat and flour to the purchases of Macedonian wheat and flour.

The decision stated that Macedonian importers have to buy 3 kg of Macedonian wheat for every 1 kg of wheat imported from other countries, including Serbia, and 4 kg of Macedonian wheat for 1kg of imported flour. Endi
