Uganda names final squad to face Tanzania in 2014 CHAN qualifier

Uganda Cranes head Coach Milutin ' Micho' Sredojevic on Wednesday night named his final 18-squad that will play away to Tanzania in the first leg of the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier on Saturday.

After a 3-1 victory against the U-23s in a friendly game, the team's technical team dropped seven players including veteran defender Richard Malinga.

"We have looked at a number of things and picked players who we are aware will fight till the last whistle to get a good away result," Micho told Xinhua in an interview.

He said the dropped players will however join the team on return to prepare for the second leg.

Besides Malinga who skippered KCCA Fc to league victory last season, the other players dropped include; Ismail Watenga, Hakim Magombe, Owen Kasule, Feni Ali, Micheal Birungi and last season's league top scorer Herman Wasswa.

SC Victoria striker Patrick Edema who netted a brace in the build-up against the U-23s will lead the team's attack together with Tony Odur, while skipper Hassan Mawanda Wasswa and Joseph Mpande are expected to hold the midfield together.

Midfielders: Ivan Ntege (KCCA FC), Brian Majwega (KCCA FC), Hassan Mawanda Wasswa (KCCA FC), Joseph Mpande (SC Vipers), Ronald Muganga (SC Villa), Said Kyeyune (URA FC), Frank Kalanda (URA)
