Zambian leader extols national soccer team for lifting regional title

Zambian President Michael Sata has hailed the national soccer team for winning the Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Castle Senior Challenge Cup, a statement released by his office said on Monday.

Zambia beat Zimbabwe 2-0 on Saturday to be COSAFA champions for a record fourth time.

The Zambian leader said the victory attained by the team gives him great pride and reinvigorates his desire to invest even more in football.

He said he was delighted that the team worked hard to overcome formidable opponents who were equally eyeing the trophy in championship competed for by 14 countries, adding that the team's triumph is an inspiration to the whole nation.

"I am glad you did not disappoint as you delivered the trophy in style," he added.

The Zambian leader has since advised the team to remain focused and aim for even greater success in the competitive world of football.

Zambia won the inaugural cup in 1997 and then retained it in 1998. They later won the title in 2006 before losing in the final to Zimbabwe in 2009. Endi
