European Commission VP urges Bulgaria to reform justice system

Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission and European commissioner for justice and fundamental rights, here on Monday urged Bulgaria to reform its justice system.

"Bulgaria needs to intensify its efforts with regard to judicial reform and the fight against corruption and organized crime," Reding said at a meeting with country's President Rosen Plevneliev according to a press release sent by the presidential administration.

Later on, Zinaida Zlatanova, Vice-Premier and Minister of Justice, presented Reding the measures to speed up judicial reform, the Government Information Service (GIS) said.

Magistrates, NGOs and politicians should unite around issues that are important for the development of judicial reform, Zlatanova said according to GIS.

In turn, Reding said that what was planned was very important and would be a good signal to the Bulgarian citizens and the European institutions, and the future of Bulgaria in Europe. Endi
