Vietnam's CPI rises 0.27 pct in July

Vietnam's Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 0.27 percent in July over the previous month, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO) on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the July figure increased 2.68 percent over December 2012, making the seven-month CPI to increase 6.81 percent year-on-year.

Ten out of 11 categories of the basket experienced price rises from 0.05 percent to 1.34 percent, with transport witnessed the highest rate, while the group of medicine and health services saw the lowest price increase.

Prices of restaurants and catering services, which accounted for almost 40 percent in the commodities basket, went up by 0.1 percent, and the price of post and telecommunications services remained stable.

The two times increase of petrol price this month resulted in a 0.09 percent increase in the CPI.

Not included in the CPI calculation, gold price in July fell by 6.28 percent while the U.S. dollar price saw an increase of 0.68 percent.

In the country's two major cities, capital Hanoi saw a CPI rise of 0.22 percent over June and that of southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City up 0.17 percent, which were both a five-month high. Enditem
