Syria's Foreign Ministry on Saturday hailed discussions between Damascus and a UN chemical investigation team as "inclusive and fruitful."
While stressing that the talks resulted in an "agreement about moving forward," the ministry spelled no further details.
Head of the UN chemical weapons investigation team, Ake Sellstrom of Sweden and UN disarmament chief Angela Kane arrived in Damascus last Wednesday for a two-day visit during which they met with Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and his deputy Faisal Mekdad.
The visit came upon an invitation by the Syrian government, UN sources told Xinhua, adding that the talks touched upon allegations that chemical weapons have been used in the Syrian crisis.
The UN fact-finding mission, set up in March following a formal request from the Syrian government, will investigate incidents involving the alleged use of chemical weapons at the Khan al-Asal town in Aleppo.
The Syrian government accused opposition fighters of being behind the chemical weapon attack, which was denied by the rebels, who pointed their fingers at Damascus administration. Endi
