Ukraine's grain exports totaled 870,000 tons in July, the first month of a new marketing year, or 38 percent down from a year earlier, authorities said Thursday.
"Ukraine is seeking new markets for its agricultural goods," First Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Arbuzov told at a government meeting.
Currently, Ukraine is trying to expand its grain supplies to the eastern countries, Arbuzov said.
Despite the drop, later on Thursday, the Agricultural Ministry lifted its grain export forecast to 28 million tons from 26 to 27 million tons estimated earlier for the new marketing year.
The east European country, which exported 23 million tons of crops in the previous marketing year, may supply the global market with 28 million tons of crops during the current season, the ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine is expected to harvest 53 to 54 million tons of crops in 2013, against 46.2 million tons in 2012. Endi
