France's President Francois Hollande talked with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama over telephone on Sunday, fingering Syrian regime to be the "perpetrator" of using the chemical weapons in the "unacceptable attacks."

Condemned the chemical attacks in Syria, Hollande noted that "everything was consistent with designating the Damascus regime as the perpetrator of these unacceptable attacks," said the Elysee Palace in a statement.

The two leaders agreed to keep close contact to "arrive at a joint response to this unprecedented aggression," a statement from the presidency said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Elysee Palace said in another two statements that Hollande also had respective telephone conversations with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd over the situation in Syria.

During his talks with Cameron, the two European leaders "unreservedly condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria," and urged "an immediate and full cooperation" of Syrian officials with the UN inquiry mission. They "agreed to discuss as soon as possible the responses to this intolerable act."

When speaking to Rudd, Hollande said, "an accumulated evidence indicated that the attack of 21 August was chemical, and everything led to consider the Syrian regime as responsible for this unspeakable act."

He asked that UN inspectors have access "without delay and without restriction" to carry out an investigation into the sites where the alleged chemical attacks had taken place.

In a statement of Syria's foreign ministry released on Sunday, Damascus has agreed to allow the UN chemical investigation team to enter the eastern al-Ghouta countryside of the capital Damascus to probe the alleged use of chemical weapons.

The main Syrian opposition group claimed that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on Wednesday and killed as many as 1,300 people. But officials denied the accusations. Endi
